Spiritual Direction

Since 1994 Margarett has been a staff member, faculty and retreat director for the Institute for Priestly Formation. For these 22 years she has been a summer resident at Creighton University ministering to 176 seminarians for ten weeks each summer. In the beginnings at IPF she taught the integration course in spirituality, psychology and sexuality for twelve years. Part of her ministry is counseling the men and praying with them for inner healing and guiding them in deliverance. As the program was growing she was asked to coordinate the apostolic program where seminarians volunteer six hours per week over a six week period in healthcare areas in the various institutions in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area and beyond.

For nine weeks – one week in January, May and October she is a staff member in the program introducing the art and skills of spiritual direction for diocesan priests. For the years 2014-16 there are about 150 priests in the program held on the Mundelein Seminary campus. Each October the program sponsors a private directed Ignatian Retreat for each priest which staff members direct. This is the fifth three-year series.

With an academic and clinical background in psychiatry she teaches relative content specific to areas related to spiritual direction.
For a number of years she directed Ignatian retreats for the Missionaries of Charity in various areas of the world, particularly focusing on those responsible for formation of candidates.
.She contracts with diocese to direct individual spiritual direction for diocesan priests and also conducts preached retreats for groups of priests making their annual retreat.
